What does the treatment involve?
If you want to get rid of your double chin without invasive surgery, lipolysis can offer an alternative to liposuction. Lipolysis is a medical procedure aimed at removing local fat deposits. Treatment consists of injecting deoxycholic acid into the double chin. Deoxycholic acid is an acid that occurs naturally in the human body; it helps dissolve fat in water. Lipolysis not only dissolves fat, it also tightens the skin. Upon injection of deoxycholic acid fat cells break down. This then releases the fat inside the cells, which is subsequently transported via the bloodstream to the liver, where it is fully dissolved. This full process takes two to three weeks.

Why lipolysis?
If you want to remove your double chin without going under the knife, lipolysis can be an attractive and affordable solution. The side effects and risks of lipolysis are much smaller than those of liposuction, where heavy swelling, infections and loss of sensation at the treatment area are far more likely to occur. Double chins are usually made up of the kind of fat that is resistant to exercise and healthy diet. They tend to appear as a result of ageing, obesity or genetic disposition.
The procedure
Please arrive thirty minutes in advance of your treatment so we can apply a numbing cream. This will make sure that you experience a pain-free lipolysis treatment. Next, we will cleanse the skin and accurately mark the treatment area. We then make a few small injections in the fatty tissue underneath your chin. The injected acid destroys the fat cells in your double chin. This triggers an inflammatory response, permanently eliminating the fat and tightening the skin. The treatment area may become hot and red as a result; this is an absolutely normal, temporary reaction. The area will continue to feel sore for a couple of days.
You may return to your normal activities immediately following your treatment. We do, however, recommend steering clear of strenuous physical activities for the first two days post-treatment. You will likely require two to three treatments to remove a double chin, with a period of eight weeks between treatments. Eighty percent of our patients are satisfied after three treatments. Results will appear over time.

The area
Tired of that annoying double chin? Do you wish to tighten your jawline? Lipolysis is a fairly uncomplicated and definitive solution. It is important to know that lipolysis is only used to dissolve small, local fat deposits, such as a double chin. If your aim is to lose weight, this is not the correct treatment for you. Dissolving fat in your double chin will help you regain a lean jawline. Once broken down, the fat cells will not return to your chin.
