A double chin or "neck fat" is nothing to be embarrassed about—it's normal. Ourskin loses elasticity as we age, and gravity takes advantage, possibly causing a double chin. Other factors include weight fluctuations and genetics. That being said, there are plenty of ways to get rid of a double chin if it's what you want, whether through face yoga and targeted skincare products or more invasive chin sculpting treatments. Ahead, find our guide to preventing or minimizing an existing double chin, according to experts.

Try CoolSculpting
"If you don't want to go under the knife, cryolipolysis, or CoolSculpting, is an effective treatment," Dr. Shirazi. "The technology uses a vacuum-like suction and a cooling applicator to freeze fat cells, which then get cleared by the body. It's a great choice for those with very soft fat in this area."
CoolSculpting is a largely safe procedure. However, there are a few side effects to be aware of, including swelling, bruising, and skin sensitivity. "There is also a very rare reaction called Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH) with CoolSculpting, which can make the fat cells enlarge rather than shrink," Dr. Shirazi adds.

Try SculpSure
If you're looking for another option besides CoolSculpting, then SculpSure is another procedure to consider. "SculpSure is a noninvasive light-based technology that targets and destroys fat cells," explains Frontera. The device should be used on desired areas twice, four weeks apart, partnered with massage to the area." What's great about SculpSure, Frontera adds, is that the series has no downtime, only takes about 25 minutes per session, and is a favorite for those targeting the submental area.
Byrdie Tip
With SculpSure and other "noninvasive" treatments, it's best to book a consultation first to make sure you are a candidate, says Frontera.

Try Daily Facial Yoga
Daily face yoga may help to keep the chin area taut. Theron shares three at-home facial exercises that can help prevent the onset of a double chin.
She suggests a simple routine:
- First, start with chin press-ups, in which you make a V with your hand, rest your chin there, pull your lips over your top teeth, hold for five seconds, and repeat.
- Then, move your hands to either side of your chin, with the length of your fingers covering your ears, and make the sound "eeeee" with your mouth.
- Put your ring fingers inside your mouth on either side, pull the skin to the side, and use your jaw muscles to bring the fingers back to touch your teeth.
- Repeat the movements 10 times.

"Chin exercises performed in the morning and evening every day will help, but you have to be consistent with them," says Theron.

Apply Serums and Moisturizers With Collagen
Try applying your face serum and moisturizer to your neck with an upward sweeping motion. If your usual product is formulated to increase collagen production, this might help, as collagen is known to improve the skin's hydration, elasticity, and texture.
Byrdie Tip
If you haven't noticed a difference in the appearance of your double chin yet, then it's worth incorporating some products into your routine that zero in on this specific area.

Use a Handheld Massage Tool
For a more long-term result at home, handheld massage tools are the way to go. If you need some recommendations, try the Prai Ageless Throat Ionic Device and Serum. The handheld tool massages the area and deepens the product into the skin. The serum contains hematite extract to boost collagen production and goldenrod extract to shield the skin from free radicals that can weaken it over time. According to customer reviews, you may notice a difference in just seven days.
"When used together, the ionic serum is pushed deeper into the skin to attack double chins, droopy jowls, and turkey necks," says Kangas. "All it takes is 45 seconds once a day. Apply the serum from the décolletage up and over the chin, and gently glide the device in upward strokes."

Give Yourself a Lymphatic Drainage Massage
When applying your products at home, a lymphatic drainage massage can help, as an effective facial exercise can strengthen the jaw and neck muscles. Hagelquist offers up the following instructions for applying your serum or moisturizer:
- Knead and pinch your jawline. Starting from the chin, move upward toward the earlobe. Use your index and middle fingers, like cutting with scissors, pinching and kneading with firm movements. "It has to be firm," says Hagelquist. "Do this both morning and evening."
- Next, tap with the back of your hand under yourchin, then poke your tongue out as far as you can toward the tip of your nose. Hold this for 10 seconds. Press your tongue against the roof of your mouth, and hold for 10 seconds again.

Practice Gua Sha
Another way to give yourself a lymphatic massage is with a gua sha tool. Roll it along the jawline and the rest of your face, and not only might it contour your features, but it also releases stored tension in your facial muscles.

Explore Noninvasive Treatments
There are several in-clinic treatments that can provide impressive results, and not all of them involve surgery. Radiofrequency is amazing for facial fat burning, doublechinreduction, lifting, and sculpting. "The benefits [to radiofrequency] are a sharper jawline, increased skin tightening, and collagen production, which helps your overall complexion and minimizes lines," says Theron.
You can also try Ultralift, another noninvasive treatment offered at Sebagh's clinic. "It delivers ultrasound waves and obtains great results for lifting, tightening, and firming," he explains. This treatment can be combinedwith Sculpt Freezetofreeze the stubborn fat cells, which are then gradually (over several months) eliminated."

Consider Injectables
If you've done it all and you're still not seeing the desired results, there's always Botox. Injectables of many kinds can change the shape of your face without you going under the knife, and the results can be long-lasting.
Dr. Jack recommends the Nefertiti Lift. "There is a superficial muscle that forms a sheet over the whole neck and pulls down on the jowls of the face when grimacing," Jack says. Botox can be used to relax the pull of this muscle and relax the tension it creates on the jawline and the area under thechin, providing a subtle lifting effect. "This is good for early cases with minimal jowls anddoublechin," he explains.
Other non-Botox injectables include carboxytherapy, which Jack explains "involves injections of carbon dioxide gas under the surface of the skin into the fat."
Kybella is another option and is currently the only FDA-approved injectable specifically for the chin area. "This newfat-dissolving injection provides permanent results, which are extremely impressive and give the patient a much more defined jawline," says Golchin. "Usually, patients will require two to six treatments spaced four to six weeks apart, but this would all be decided upon consultation."
Byrdie Tip
Frontera notes that with Kybella, depending on how much a client may need, the price can be significantly higher. "In those cases, we may recommend liposuction instead to get the desired look."

Go the Liposuction Route
Liposuction can eradicate a double chin, but it is invasive. "Liposuction of the neck is a surgical procedure I provide for my patients who have excess fat where a nonsurgical option wouldn't benefit them entirely," explains Golchin. "This surgery enables me to remove the patient's fat and sculpt a natural contour to the chin and neck."
Here's how it works:
- Liposuction is an effective way to permanently remove fat pockets using a small thin tube inserted through little cuts in the skin, according to Dr. Shirazi.
- "Recent technology uses sound wave energy under your skin to first rupture the cell walls and liquefy the fat. A powerful, high-pressure vacuum then suctions the fat out," she explains.
